Vitamin C in drinks
One thing to be aware of when sending drinks for analysis, is that if they are to be analyzed for vitamin C, they have to be sent in original unopened packaging. Vitamin C oxidizes fast in liquid samples, so to ensure accurate results it needs to have been in contact with as little air as possible.
Know your products
The appropriate type of testing depends on a variety of factors, like the form of the vitamin, the fat content of the sample and the matrix. As an example, the test of beta carotene requires saponification if a sample has a fat percentage above 3. Likewise, if the vitamin is encapsulated, it needs enzymatic treatment.
