SCHEER Opinion on LED lights
The Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER)’s opinion on LED lights is now available in the European Commission website.
As a result of the widespread use of LED light (such as in computer screen, tablet or mobile phone, street lights and vehicles, etc.…), the European Commission requested to SCHEER a risk human health assessment about this kind of lights.
SCHEER’s conclusion was that there is no evidence of a risk of direct adverse health effects from LEDs when the lights are in normal use.
But SCHEER would continue monitoring LED Lights since there is not enough information to know the effects of flicker and any health risk they might pose to the general public due to long term use.
