On 5 March 2026, the European Union introduced stricter rules for the naming of plant-based meat alternatives. Terms that clearly refer to animals or animal parts will be banned. This applies, for example, to plant-based bacon, steak, breast, drumstick or wing. However, names such as veggie burger, nuggets and vegetarian sausage remain permitted for the time being.
