Eurofins’ Organic Cotton Identification Services Receive Global Recognition

Sidebar Image

Eurofins Softlines & Leather and Eurofins GeneScan proudly announce that their Organic Cotton Identification Services have received global recognition. GeneScan’s GMO testing for cotton products, which forms one part of the Organic Cotton Identification Services, successfully passed the first-of-its-kind proficiency test of ISO/ IWA 32:2019 standard “Screening of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in cotton and textiles”. The proficiency test was organised by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) and Textile Exchange.

ISO/ IWA 32:2019 is the world recognised standard for GMO-testing in the cotton supply chain developed by GOTS, OCA and Textile Exchange. Eurofins GeneScan, a world leading GMO-testing laboratory located in Freiburg, Germany, participated in the initial workshop for this standard, using the valuable insights and experience they had gained in GMO analysis of cotton and textiles over several years.

For cotton to be regarded as organic, it is essential not only to verify the use of conventional non-GMO lines, but also the absence of synthetic pesticides and hazardous chemicals in the farming practice. To provide comprehensive solutions to brands, retailers and suppliers that look for genuine organic cotton, Eurofins’ Organic Cotton Identification Services offers testing solutions for both. GMO testing according to ISO/ IWA 32:2019 is carried out by Eurofins GeneScan, and analysis of over 200 pesticides and 250 hazardous chemicals is delivered by the Eurofins Softlines & Leather Technical Competence Centre in Alicante, Spain.

Since the launch, Eurofins’ Organic Cotton Identification Services have supported customers in validating their marketing claims and protecting their brand images with a one-stop-shop service. The successful participation of Eurofins GeneScan in the ISO/ IWA 32:2019 proficiency test further demonstrates Eurofins’ competency in this area.

Two free webinars are taking place to assist buyers and suppliers in understanding the services. Details below. Both sessions carry the same content but are offered in different timeslots. Participants can choose the one that suits them best to join.
