Afia Shuleni

In Swahili, “Afia Shuleni” means "Health at School".

Afia Shuleni firmly believes that every individual, and therefore every child, should have access to basic healthcare. A healthy child has a better chance of finishing school and finding better prospects for the future, which can contribute towards the living standards of not only themselves, but also of their family and community. The Eurofins Foundation therefore supports Afia Shuleni in organising the provision of preventive healthcare and hygiene education to approximately 10,000 students per school year, along with their parents, teachers and principals, in the South-Kivu province in the DR of Congo.

In 2019/2020, Eurofins Foundation’s support to Afia Shuleni allowed one new doctor and two new nurses to be trained through two refresher courses. Preventive healthcare was offered to around 7,500 students – slightly less than anticipated, due to closure of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. New teaching materials could be distributed in 29 schools, out of the targeted 50.
