For the Love of Bees

For the Love of Bees (FTLOB) is a charitable trust with a mission to teach and model regenerative organic horticulture to transform the way we grow food.

In 2024-2025, the Eurofins Foundation is providing funding to the Communities of Regenerative Learning.

In November 2023, FTLOB began a year-long pilot establishing a network of six community-connected urban farms in Auckland city, New Zealand, and providing expert, tailored mentoring for each.  As part of the Communities of Regenerative Learning programme, each farm is supported to increase its productivity so it can better feed its community and develop knowledge of regenerative organic growing.

This will focus on a low-carbon, no-till model, feeding local communities package-free, nutrient-dense produce. The six farms are encouraged to minimise soil disturbance to prevent carbon emissions, and to nourish the soil, thus increasing microbial diversity, flood resilience and discouraging pests and disease. Soil and leaf tests enable FTLOB’s agronomist to advise the farms how to create robust, healthy balanced soil and grow nutrient-dense produce.

The participating farms (Pourewa māra kai (Ngāti Whātua’s garden), Ihumatao māra kai, Growing Point at Dignan Street Community Garden, Kelmarna Community Farm, Tamaki Urban Market Garden and O.M.G.) form community hubs across the city and have attended FTLOB’s five-day regenerative horticulture programme.
