Nurture Africa

Nurture Africa is a holistic non-governmental organisation founded in 2003, dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities in Uganda through health-centred development. Nurture Africa provides maternal and child healthcare, HIV prevention methods, and nutritional support, alongside education, vocational training, and economic empowerment initiatives. By integrating healthcare with education and livelihood programmes, the organisation fosters sustainable development and resilience in some of Uganda’s most underserved communities.

In 2025-2026, the Eurofins Foundation is supporting the project “Saving Lives One Child at a Time.” This initiative aims to reduce neonatal and under-five mortality in Uganda’s Wakiso District by strengthening emergency care capacity through targeted training and resource provision.

Uganda faces persistently high neonatal mortality rates, particularly in Wakiso District, where inadequate resuscitation training and limited health infrastructure exacerbate preventable deaths, while overcrowded urban slums and poor sanitation increase risks for mothers and babies. This project was launched to address these critical gaps and improve survival rates for newborns and young children.

The project will train 300 healthcare workers and 60 Village Health Teams in the Paediatric Acute Intervention and Resuscitation Skills (PAIRS) model, a context-specific, evidence-based approach approved by Uganda’s Ministry of Health. It will also equip five health centres with essential resuscitation equipment and consumables, enabling treatment for over 10,000 neonatal and paediatric emergency cases annually. In addition, the project aims to develop a sustainable local training faculty of 50 certified trainers to scale the PAIRS model across Wakiso and neighbouring regions. The grant from the Eurofins Foundation will support the purchase of critical equipment and the delivery of PAIRS training.
