Devxchange International

Devxchange International Programs is a Canadian charity that champions a collaborative approach to international development. Founded in 2006, Devxchange works through a network of professional volunteers who contribute their services and expertise as strategists and mentors. The organisation supports over 40 projects worldwide, providing management assistance, evaluations, marketing, and fundraising guidance. Its mission is rooted in social innovation and sustainability, ensuring that development initiatives empower communities and create lasting impact.
In 2025-2026, the Eurofins Foundation is supporting the project “Enhancing Rural Livelihoods and Strengthening Community Food Security through Sustainable Integrated Fish-Vegetable Production using Aquaponic Technology”. This project introduces an innovative farming system in Sierra Leone that combines aquaculture (fish farming) with hydroponics (soil-less vegetable cultivation) to create a closed-loop, resource-efficient model. By leveraging aquaponics, the initiative aims to address food insecurity, environmental degradation, and economic vulnerability in rural communities.
The project was launched to tackle critical challenges faced by rural households in Sierra Leone, including chronic food shortages, malnutrition, and limited income opportunities for women and youth. Traditional farming methods are often inefficient and vulnerable to climate change, while access to modern agricultural technologies remains scarce. By integrating fish farming and vegetable production in a sustainable system, the project reduces water use, eliminates chemical fertilisers, and ensures year-round availability of nutritious food. Beyond improving diets, the initiative empowers communities with technical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, fostering resilience and reducing dependency on imports.
The project will establish 50 cooperative groups comprising 1,250 members, who will be trained to construct and manage aquaponic systems. The Eurofins Foundation will support the funding of essential components, including fish tanks, grow beds, pumps, and greenhouse materials, as well as operational inputs such as seeds, fingerlings, and fish feed. This support will enable the first production cycle and lay the foundation for sustainable food systems that improve nutrition, protect the environment, and create economic opportunities for vulnerable women and youth.
