Mortar is a fundamental building material used to hold bricks, stones and other masonry components together. Made up of lime or cement, water and sand, mortar fills the gaps between building blocks, to create strong and weather-tight joints. It’s also used for surface finishes and decorative details in masonry walls. Unlike concrete, mortar is thicker in consistency and is used for bonding materials and distributing loads.
