Methionine is an essential amino acid and together with 20 other amino acids, a fundamental building block of all proteins.
Methionine cannot be produced by the body and must therefore be taken up via the feed because it is an important nutrient for maintenance, growth and (re)production.
Intestinal digestible methionine is supplied through microbial protein and resistant feed protein. For optimal milk production, lysine and methionine are generally considered the first-limiting amino acids. Therefore, the levels of intestinal digestible lysine and methionine in feedstuffs are crucial. These values are presented in the Eurofins Agro feed value report and are calculated using the same method as the intestinal digestible protein fraction.
