Species-level insight into soil, substrate and water microbiology

Healthy soils and substrates form the basis of resilient growing systems. Microbiome profiling uses Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to reveal the complete microbial community in soil, substrate and greenhouse water - down to species level.

What is microbiome profiling?

Microbiome profiling analyses the DNA of fungi and bacteria in soil, substrate and greenhouse water using NGS. It provides a complete species-level overview of the microbiome, including both beneficial micro-organisms and pathogens.

How does Next Generation Sequencing work?

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) identifies micro-organisms based on their DNA. This allows species within the same microbial group to be distinguished from each other.

How does it relate to Soil Life Monitor and DNA Multiscan?

Soil Life Monitor

Soil Life Monitor analysis shows functional groups of micro-organisms. Different groups, such as fungi and bacteria, have characteristic profiles. Soil Life Monitor does not distinguish individual species.

DNA Multiscan

DNA Multiscan detects predefined pathogenic species in soil, substrate and water.

NGS Microbiome Profiling

NGS analyses the DNA of all micro-organisms in a sample. This allows a detailed distinction within microbial families and provides a full microbiome picture.

When should you use microbiome profiling?

Microbiome profiling is useful when:

  • Species-level insight is required
  • You want to distinguish beneficial organisms from pathogens
  • Detailed microbiome information on soil, substrate or greenhouse water is needed
  • You want to understand differences within the same functional group

What does microbiome profiling measure?

Microbiome profiling identifies, quantifies and visualises fungi and bacteria at species level. It provides insight into microbial composition and balance in soil, substrate and greenhouse water.
