PFAS Analysis

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of synthetic chemicals widely used in industrial applications and consumer products due to their water- and grease-repellent properties. Common examples include non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, and firefighting foams. However, PFAS are highly persistent in the environment and may pose risks to both human health and the environment. As a result, PFAS have become a key parameter in environmental monitoring, and in the Netherlands they are classified as substances of very high concern.

PFAS in Soil

Eurofins offers a comprehensive portfolio of PFAS analyses in soil, including methods aligned with the Dutch Handelingskader PFAS. We provide rapid turnaround times of as little as two working days. In addition, we can analyse GenX, a substance introduced as a replacement for PFOA.

PFAS in Water

Our laboratories can analyse PFAS in water at microgram and nanogram per litre levels, meeting stringent Dutch and European regulatory requirements. We also support analysis of emerging PFAS compounds, such as trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), which is gaining increased attention as a contaminant of concern.

Firefighting Foam

PFAS-containing firefighting foams have historically been widely used due to their ability to form a protective layer over fires. Within the European Union, several PFAS substances, including PFOA, are now restricted or prohibited in firefighting foams. Eurofins Environment Testing laboratories provide analytical services to detect and quantify PFAS in firefighting foam products.
