Residual Solvents TestingAs a center of excellence for small molecule finished product testing, the Eurofins Biopharma Product Testing (EBPT) lab in Portage, MI, has continued to grow while delivering high quality results to our clients. Expanding the Portage site testing capabilities while complementing the services already provided is a key focus so that Eurofins can continuously add value to customers.

With this in mind, the Portage, MI, and Lancaster, PA, sites are collaborating to share expertise and expand its raw materials testing footprint at the Portage location. In the past several years, EBPT has seen an exponential increase in demand for raw materials testing at its Lancaster, PA, facility, and is resolute that expansion to a second lab to improve business continuity will help clients meet their demands and maintain a seamless service experience.

The Lancaster site is well known for excellent turnaround time and quality of data supporting raw materials for the past 20+ years. Matt Rodak, Sr. Manager, Raw Materials, in Lancaster, is partnering with the management team at Portage to take his many years of experience and on board the new business in Portage. Matt has taken LEAN concepts for laboratory designs and scaled it appropriately for the Portage site to help design laboratory space in a way that will enable scientists to efficiently test samples and meet the fast turnaround time expectations required for raw materials. Remodeling of three laboratory modules is currently ongoing to allow for raw materials testing to be performed in these laboratory spaces which will include: an instruments lab with wet chemistry, a large preparation and reagent storage lab, and a characterization lab fit for the monograph testing needs.

Due to harmonization efforts already in place, both sites share the same LIMS, electronic notebook system, and document control system. This shared technology platform has enabled information sharing to build robust systems and efficient validation plans for instrumentation. In many cases, the same instrument platforms will be implemented at Portage allowing for faster onboarding of instruments, while the team continues to evaluate advancement in data integrity to upgrade software/instrument packages where appropriate. Training programs and expertise at Lancaster will be leveraged to ensure compliance and technical expertise in difficult analyses that may be performed.

Eurofins’ ability to share best practices among its network of EBPT laboratories is an exciting advantage while onboarding new testing capabilities to improve business continuity for our client’s testing needs. The addition of a second raw materials testing laboratory within EBPT through collaboration of both sites will help the laboratory network continue to exceed customers’ timely testing expectations.
