The EC prohibits the smearing of Bisphenol A from packaging and items to baby food
The EC has been working to tighten the legislation on Bisphenol A - both in plastic and in lacquers and coatings for food contact. The proposal has now been to a vote and has been adopted in the EU. The regulation has not been published yet, but contains the following:
- Determination of a migration limit for Bisphenol A of 0.05 mg / kg of food for varnishes and other surface treatments for food contact materials
- Change of the migration limit for Bisphenol A to 0.05 mg / kg of food for plastic food contact materials
- Bisphenol A must not be used to make feeding bottles and Bisphenol A must not migrate in amounts above 0.05 mg/kg from varnishes and other surface treatments applied to food contact materials intended for infants and young children
- Introduction of Declarations of Compliance for Lacquered and Other Surface Treated Food Contact Materials
