PFAS are known to leach substantially from contaminated soils, waste materials, and other solid matrices due to the relatively high water solubility of many PFAS compounds, particularly shorter fluorinated sulfonates and carboxylic acids (PFSA and PFCA). This mobility can contribute to the spread of PFAS into groundwater and surrounding environments, making leaching assessments an important part of environmental risk evaluations. The ability of PFAS to persist in the environment and migrate through water pathways has increased the need for reliable laboratory methods to determine release potential from waste and soil materials. Eurofins therefore continues to expand its validated testing capabilities for PFAS leaching assessments.
Eurofins has now validated the PFAS column percolation test according to EN 14405, including verification of adsorption effects and laboratory blanks, complementing the validated batch leaching methods already available. It is possible to choose between three pretreatment options for the leachate prior to PFAS analysis: sedimentation, sedimentation combined with centrifugation, or filtration through a 0.45 µm filter. Together with the previously validated batch leaching tests according to EN 12457, Eurofins now offers a comprehensive portfolio for assessing PFAS release from soils, waste, and other materials under different leaching conditions.
More information about our PFAS leaching tests is available in our product sheet. For sample submission, we also provide a dedicated order form that allows you to select from various leaching tests, leachate pre-treatments, and PFAS packages. Please see the links below.
