Environmental DNA (eDNA) is genetic material that organisms leave behind in their environment. Environmental DNA (eDNA) is the genetic material shed by all organisms into the water column. After filtering the water, our laboratory can extract the trapped eDNA. Downstream analysis using a species-specific quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay can then be used to detect rare endangered indigenous species or monitor aquatic invasive species.

eDNA is experiencing increasing interest because of easy noninvasive sampling procedures and the techniques’ ability to detect rare, non-indigenous or low-abundant species in environmental matrices as water, sediments and soil. Our services within this field are targeted-analysis and non–targeted Screening.
Targeted analysis is based on defined species using qPCR technology. We can offer a broad range of targeted analysis using qPCR at our laboratory facilities in Denmark. You will find lists of species of both protected and invasive species among others on this webpage. Non–targeted Screening enables identification of species using a Metabarcoding strategy.
Ease of use and trustable Turn-Around Times are of high importance in addition to our high-quality analysis. The Turn Around Times for the Targeted tests presented are 3 weeks (minimum 5 samples per batch).

The Sylphium SYL009 eDNA sampling set is a complete sampling set with eDNA Dual Filter and preservation buffer, designed for efficient and clean environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling.
The kit includes the eDNA Dual Filter capsule and valves for quick and easy sampling. The Dual Filter Capsule is designed for on-site filtration of large volumes of water, and the buffer serves both as a lysis and preservation solution, stabilizing the DNA captured on the filter. The eDNA Dual Filter Capsule can then be securely sealed with lock caps to minimize the risk of contamination. The eDNA filters can be stored and shipped at room temperature. The eDNA Sampling Set complies with the requirements outlined in CEN/TC 230 – Water Analysis – N 1229.
