Ex products intended for use or installation in hazardous areas in Japan are subject to mandatory certification under Japanese law, specifically the Industrial Health and Safety Law. This certification is known as JPEx certification.
The responsible authority for this certification is the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and Ex equipment must be certified by a testing and inspection body recognised by the MHLW.

Access to the Japanese market for Ex products requires a Japanese-specific certification. This requires further certification or review by local government agencies or certification bodies where the original certification has been undertaken outside of Japan.
Manufacturers can obtain Japanese Ex certification through Eurofins E&E CML Ltd who are an overseas recognised body by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). No additional certification or review by local government agencies or certification bodies is required,allowing the original Ex certification to be carried over.
