Eurofins BioPharma Protect Testing New Zealand is able to perform antibiotic potency testing by the bioassay method.

Antibiotic potency is estimated by comparing the inhibition of growth of sensitive micro-organisms produced by known concentrations of the antibiotic being examined, against a reference standard substance.

The test is performed on raw materials and finished products to confirm the antibiotic activity meets specifications.

Principle of test

All test methods are based on the European and British pharmacopeia: Biological assay of antibiotics, BP Appendix XIV A (Ph. Eur. method 2.7.2).
