Microbiome Testing: An Integrated Multidisciplinary Approach
Human skin is a complex and dynamic ecosystem inhabited by a multitude of microorganisms, collectively referred to as skin microbiota. The genomes of organisms present on the skin surface are referred as skin microbiome. The investigation of skin microbiome by NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) techniques allows to identify all the bacterial genes present at a given time, their relative proportion and, in turn characterise the skin microbiota.
Eurofins Cosmetics & Personal Care applies a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to study cosmetic products impacts to skin microbiota by combining clinical evaluation, instrumental analysis, metagenomic analysis and claims.

Dr. Marco Piacentini, Managing Director of Eurofins Cosmetics & Personal Care Italy Dr. Marco Piacentini has a Master of Science in Chemical Engineer at Polytechnic of Milan where he was awarded with an academicals Prize for Catalysis. Dr. Piacentini obtained then a PhD in Technical Science from ETH in Zurich where he published 8 papers in global peered reviewed journals about Heterogeneous DeNOx Catalysis. Following his academicals and research career, Dr. Piacentini achieved an MBA at Bocconi Business school in Milan and devoted himself to Cosmetic Industry where he has been enrolled as Director for Innovation, for Quality & Development in manufacturing companies prior to join Eurofins in different managerial position and lately as Managing Director for Eurofins Cosmetics & Personal Care in Italy. Dr. Piacentini has a distinguished bend for research applied to industry and a proven ability to convert research into business opportunities.
