Eurofins can help you fulfill global regulatory requirements for assessment of potential endocrine-disrupting substances. In recent years, an emerging area of concern with regard to its impact on human and environmental health has been the potential for chemical substances and mixtures to affect the endocrine systems of mammals and non-mammalian species.

The effects of endocrine-disrupting compounds – which interfere with the actions of naturally occurring hormones in humans and animals – have become a central point of focus for the scientific community and caused alarm among the public at large. Authorities around the world have begin to aggressively regulate these substances and implement screening programs to minimize their environmental impact, requiring manufacturers in all industries to start testing their products for potential endocrine-disrupting effects.

Eurofins has been at the forefront of developing specific tests to identify endocrine disruptors and determine their effects, and we are proud to be the go-to Contract Research Organization for such testing.

In recent years the potential impact of endocrine disruptors has been increasingly regulated on a global scale with a variety of legislative implementations including the United States’ Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) and European law regarding Plant Protection Products (1107/2009), REACH (1907/2006), Biocides (528/2012) and Human Pharmaceuticals. (Article 8(3) of Directive 2001/83/EC and associated ERA Guidance EMEA/CHMP/SWP/4447/00 Rev. 1.)

These pieces of legislation are supported by guidance documents from non-regulatory bodies such as the Organization for Economic and Cooperation and Development (OECD) and World Health Organization (WHO).

The OECD conceptual framework and appropriate testing methods are detailed in the "Guidance Document on Standardized Test Guidelines for Evaluating Chemicals for Endocrine Disruption" (OECD Series on Testing and Assessment No 150). This guidance document was originally published in 2012 and updated in 2018 to reflect new and updated OECD test guidelines, as well as reflect on scientific advances in the use of test methods and assessment of the endocrine activity of chemicals. .

Eurofins Regulatory Science Services is in full compliance with the latest OECD guidelines, and we offer every type of endocrine disruption study from physical chemical data to in-vitro testing to complex multi-generational and long term studies with vertebrates and invertebrates.

Eurofins is poised to support your Endocrine Disruptor testing and confirm and characterize the endocrine effects of your product.
