Microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) have moved from environmental curiosity to a subject of serious scientific and regulatory attention, but many of the field's most consequential questions remain unresolved. This session builds on our first Making Sense of Microplastics webinar with a deeper look at three areas of active research - the unique behavior and detection challenges of nanoplastics, the growing evidence that MNPs may act as threat vectors for co-contaminants like PFAS and heavy metals, and the correlated health observations emerging from human tissue and epidemiological studies. Drawing directly from the peer-reviewed literature, we will examine what the science currently supports, where the evidence is still limited, and why definitive conclusions remain elusive.
