CE marking for PPE in the EU
The EU’s Regulation (EU) 2016/425 classifies PPE into three categories:

• Category I – Self-declaration by manufacturers.
• Category II – Certification by a Notified Body.
• Category III – Certification and ongoing monitoring by a Notified Body.

For Category II and III PPE, manufacturers must conduct accredited testing and submit technical files for approval. Category III PPE also requires annual factory audits or sample testing.
