REACH is the European legislation for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals. REACH requires companies to be responsible for the safe use of all chemical substances that they produce or import into the EU in quantities of one ton or more per year. These companies must demonstrate that the traditional use of their substances does not pose a risk to humans or the environment.
In addition to the chemical industry, the agro-, pharmaceutical- and cosmetics industries as well as retailers of finished goods may also be affected. Without registration, the further use or marketing of the substance is prohibited.

The main objective of REACH is to protect human health and the environment from risks posed by chemicals while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry.
