Hazards of pesticides to bees

EAS Experts delivering a variety of content at the upcoming ICPPR conference 

In October 2024, the 16th International Symposium of the ICP-PR Bee Protection Group “Hazards of pesticides to bees,” will take place in Sevilla, Spain. Topics related to hazards of pesticides to bees and related to bee protection will be discussed, including:  

  • Risk assessment and risk management 
  • Microbials 
  • Non-Apis 
  • Monitoring 
  • Modelling 
  • Semi-field and field 
  • Bee brood 

Our Terrestrial Ecotox Field and Lab team will be onsite, actively participating in a number of poster sessions and expert talks! 

Two posters on solitary leafcutter bees (semi-field test) will be shared - see details here:

  • New approaches for the analysis of residues of plant protection products in non-typical matrices collected by solitary leafcutter bees (Megachile rotundata F.) in a semi-field test design 
  • New experiences and insights of two-year testing with the leafcutter bee (Megachile rotundata) in a semi-field test design

Four new posters will be presented: 

  • Queen Mortality in Honeybee Colonies during Regulatory Field Studies: An Analysis of Six Years of Data
  • Change in Abundance of Honeybee Foragers as a Tool for Improving Data Quality in Honeybee Semi-Field Studies
  • A honeybee study with microbial substances 
  • Larval repeated exposure studies; The use of hatching boxes vs. closing the plates with a lid. Comparison of both methods with regards to hatching success 

Furthermore, our experts will deliver two talks entitled:  

  • Results of a Colony Feeding Test to Evaluate the Efficacy of vadedscana for Control of Varroa Mites in Honeybees (Apis mellifera L.)
  • AI-Powered Field Monitoring with Modelling: Uncovering the Hidden Impacts of Sublethal Neonicotinoids on Bees

In addition to these posters and talks, EAS colleagues attending the event are participating in working groups that will discuss among other topics:

  • Ringtest group for the development of a guideline for a chronic feeding study with Osmia  
  • Ringtest group meeting regarding guideline development for a honeybee study with microbial substances    

During the ICPPR conference, ringtest results and further actions will be discussed.
