Ease of test item permit rules in Austria
The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) has recently simplified the test item permit system to conduct GEP and GLP trials in Austria.
From January 2022, non-registered formulations containing only active ingredients that are already listed on Annex I of Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009 can be tested in field experiments without applying for a test item permit.
EAS Austria, as a registered test facility, will now only need to notify to AGES of the intent to conduct a field trial and can then immediately commence with the work. Trial area permission is max. 2ha., and no fees are applicable for these notifications to AGES. This new system should significantly reduce the administrative delay and the local fees, although a permit will still be required for new active substances that are not listed on Annex 1, including microbials.
