Changes to harmonize EU fertilizer legislation coming into force
As of July 2022, Regulation EU n°2019/1009 (FPR) will apply repealing the Regulation (EC) n° 2003/2003. The new regulation ensures a level playing field for all fertilising products, from conventional fertilisers produced from mined or chemically produced materials, through to fertilisers made from organic materials.
In addition, fertilizers labelled according to this regulation (EC FERTILIZER) can no longer be placed on the market.

This new regulation has prompted changes to Italian Legislation; national Decreto Legislativo 75/2010 (3)
Italian stakeholders and technical committees are currently working on a proposal to upgrade the national Decreto Legislativo 75/2010 (3). Essentially, the main objective is to facilitate the transition to the new Reg EU 1009/2019 by ensuring that all types of fertiliser designations not covered at European level, are covered at least on a national level, and that all fertilisers covered by the EU 2003/2003 Reg can also be included as fertilisers on a national level.
