Nitrate (for haylage only)

Nitrate indicates the palatability of the haylage. Nitrate is related to the fertilisation of the soil. A high concentration of nitrate in the haylage indicates incorrect fertilisation. Incorrect fertilisation can be either too much or too little fertilisation of the soil before mowing the grass.

A high concentration of nitrate will negatively influence the palatability and smell of the haylage which influences health and can even be even deadly.
