How we help

Eurofins Agro Testing Australia offers detailed soil analysis forming the foundation of targeted soil fertility programmes, tailored to support your unique production needs.

Good, fertile soil drives agricultural production, and a detailed understanding is the first step towards realising its full potential.

Soil analysis is fundamental to understanding your soil. Eurofins Agro Testing provides you with a detailed analysis to form the basis for specific soil fertility and/or amelioration required to correct physical or chemical soil imbalances.

Soil testing helps you understand and manage your land more effectively by providing insight into its nutritional status and chemical properties. It enables predictive decisions by identifying what may be limiting production, supports troubleshooting when soils are underperforming or yields are affected, and allows ongoing monitoring to track changes in soil chemistry over time.

Why test soil?

  • Assess the capacity of the soil to support plant growth
  • Establish current soil nutritional status
  • Diagnose plant nutrient deficiencies/toxicities
  • Make informed decisions for soil management and fertiliser applications to maximise yields and profits
  • Indicate the ameliorants required to correct physical or chemical soil imbalances
  • Monitor soil fertility
  • Fine tune nutritional inputs
  • Ensure fertiliser applications have no adverse environmental effects
  • Identify soil variability and apply precision agricultural technology

A fertile, healthy, well-structured soil will improve:

  • Yields
  • Quality of produce — appearance, weight, taste, and shelf life
  • Food nutrient value
  • Resistance to pests and diseases
  • Livestock performance
  • Water use efficiency
  • Fertiliser use efficiency
  • Profit

Soil biological testing

Eurofins Agro Testing Australia offers an exclusive science-based microbial activity test for Australian farmers through our partner laboratory. If you are seeking a broad, single indicator of microbial activity in your soil this low-cost test is ideal. The Microbiology Laboratories Australia (MLA) microbial activity test measures activity of soil microbes directly from your sample.

Benefits of testing

  • Receive a full report including personalised comments and explanation of results
  • Determine where your soil's microbial activity sits in comparison with a guide figure
  • Receive suggested solutions for correcting microbial activity
  • Receive data displayed in a combination of easy-to-read graphs and text

How the test works

  • Measures the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by microbes over a given time to calculate microbial activity
  • Digital chromatography is used to calculate the amount of microbial activity (measured by microbial respiration)
  • The greater the amount of carbon dioxide evolved over a given period the higher the amount of microbial activity. (There is a very good correlation between carbon dioxide evolution from soils and other materials, such as compost, and microbial activity)
