Guide for EMC Directive and language requirements for RED

 

In March this year, the European Commission published the following documents for the correct application of the national language requirements in RED Directive (2014/53/EU) and the general application of EMC Directive (2014/30/EU):

The European Commission has recently published the following amendments to Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS) as below:

Iceland

 

New Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulation

On 9th March the Icelandic authorities published the new electromagnetic compatibility regulation (REGLUGERÐ um rafsegulsamhæfi) in the Official Journal which repeals and replaces the old regulation.

This Regulation transposes into national law the provisions of Directive 2014/30/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the harmonization of the laws of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility.

It shall enter into force immediately.

US (San Francisco)

 

New requirements for flame retardants for electrical and electronic components

The “Flame Retardant Chemicals in Upholstered Furniture and Juvenile Products Ordinance” was signed by the Mayor on 23rd April and it come into effect on January 1, 2019.

The Ordinance prohibits the sale of upholstered furniture and certain juvenile products that contain or is made with a flame retardant chemical at a level above 1,000 parts per million. For products with electrical or electronic components containing or made with a flame retardant chemical at a level above 1,000 parts per million shall comply beginning July 1, 2019.

Argentina 

 

New Resolution for electrical equipment

 

On 28th March the Ministry of Production- Commerce Secretary published Resolution 169/2018  with the aim of ensuring that the electrical equipment commercialized in Argentina complies with the requirements that provide a high level of protection to health and safety.
It applies to electrical equipment with a nominal input and/or output voltage between 50 V and 1,000 V in AC and between 75 V and 1,500 V in DC and sources, chargers and transformers operating with the mentioned input and/or output voltages.
This Resolution came into force on 27th May and shall remain in force for a period of 4 years from the effective date, which may be extended to its expiration.

 

Brazil

 

New Amendment for LED lamps

On 29th March  INMETRO published Portaria n.º 167  indicating the requirements for LED lamps with an integrated base device.
This Ordinance shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal.
