Recent Legislation Updates Regarding Electrical and Electronic Equipment






Consolidated version of Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 8 June 2011 on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment
This consolidated version includes last amendment published in November 2017 (Directive (EU) 2017/2102)



Commission Decision (EU) 2018/59 of 11 January 2018  amending Decision 2009/300/EC as regards the content, and period of validity, of the ecological criteria for the award of the EU Eco-label to televisions

New Standard DIN EN 60601-1-8

Following its plastics strategy, made public on January 2018, the European Commission has requested the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to prepare proposals for restriction concerning oxo-degradable plastics and intentionally added microplastic particles due to their potential risk to the environment and human health

With this aim, in spring 2018, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) will be launching calls for evidence to compile relevant information from stakeholders to assist with the risk and socio-economic assessment of oxo-plastics and intentionally added microplastics.

New Zealand


Proposed Changes in the Requirements for Household Refrigerators and Freezers

On 5th January 2018, New Zealand authorities notified WTO (World Trade Organization) the proposed changes to regulatory requirements for household refrigerators and freezers that can be found in the Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Decision Regulation Impact Statement – Household Refrigerators and Freezers.

The Proposed date of adoption is 1 December 2018 and it shall entry into force in January 2021.

Draft of Technical Regulation on Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment


On 10th January 2018, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine notified WTO (World Trade Organization) the Draft of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On Amendments to Annexes 3 and 4 to the Technical Regulation on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment".

The aim of this draft is to bring provisions of the Technical Regulation into conformity with similar provisions of European Directive 2011/65/EU by making appropriate amendments to Annexes 3 and 4 to the Technical Regulation.
