Wild bee studies
Eurofins Agroscience Services EcoChem GmbH is now offering new studies with wild bees following standard or special designs. All studies are planned and performed by a highly experienced team of scientists and technical personnel.
The objective of the studies is to evaluate the side effects of the test item on the reproduction and vitality of wild bees.
The wild bee studies (Osmia bicornis L.) are conducted according to current OEPP/EPPO Guideline, recommendations by EFSA and the OECD Principles of Good Laboratory Practice under field conditions throughout Europe (e.g. Germany, France).
Special study designs include long-term studies with overwintering of the offspring and further analysis.

Specially constructed wild bee nesting units are set-up on each treatment field site. Assessments are done on cell production, foraging activity at the nesting units and in the crop, nest occupation, hatching success as well as the vitality of offspring.
- Standard studies according to OEPP/EPPO Guideline No. 170
- Coated seeds
- Oilseed rape and all pollinator attractive crops
- Experience in incubation and hatching requirements of cocoons
- Residue studies within the crop under field conditions. Samples from the crop (pollen, nectar, flowers) and pollen sampled by wild bees are collected and analyzed.

Currently, Eurofins Agroscience Services EcoChem GmbH is investigating the opportunities of semi-field studies with Osmia bicornis and the effects of spray applications. Appropriate releasing rates within the tents are observed and assure an optimum bee:flower ratio.
