Post-Harvest studies in Southern Europe

Eurofins Agroscience Services offers various post-harvest quality assessments on a large range of crops.

Post-harvest efficacy, quality and residue studies are conducted from our field facilities throughout southern Europe where we can accommodate:

  • storage conditions (temperature / controlled atmosphere CA)
  • post-harvest applications

In Bologna, our experts can conduct post-harvest studies under modified atmosphere conditions.   CA studies require specific equipment such as a nitrogen generator, a controller and gas analyser, specific software plus cold chambers - all of the necessary kit is onsite. Two dedicated cold chambers of 10 m3 with controlled T° and humidity are available at our Bologna facility and if necessary, additional cold chambers can be arranged on site to increase storage capacity.

With this equipment we are able to simulate commercial long fruit storage in CA – at present we are conducting a study with fruit being stored in two conditions – one at 2% O2 and 98% N2 then another at 5% O2 and 95% N2 for 4-6 months.

In addition, our Post Harvest Lab has been integrated with the NetLab System for fruit quality lab analysis.  The Software was developed by Bay of Plenty, a Eurofins company in the food division in New Zealand.
