EAS opened its first field station in Coimbatore, India in January 2014; Coimbatore, in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is based in a geographically diverse region.  This location has been selected for the following reasons;

  • Weather is highly conducive for pests and diseases - specifically, there are no extremes of rain / winter / summer, which are very common in most of the other locations. The uniform climatic conditions help in conducting trials throughout the year.
  • The availability of a wide range of crops, including plantation crops like Tea / Coffee / Cardamom etc. within a range of 100 km, while all other field crops, fruits and vegetable are available in the vicinity.
  • The New Field Station site has good communication links, buildings to convert to office and lab space and irrigation

There are plans in the pipeline for full GLP accreditation over the next 6 months.
