EAS opened its first field station in Coimbatore, India in January 2014; Coimbatore, in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is based in a geographically diverse region. This location has been selected for the following reasons;
- Weather is highly conducive for pests and diseases - specifically, there are no extremes of rain / winter / summer, which are very common in most of the other locations. The uniform climatic conditions help in conducting trials throughout the year.
- The availability of a wide range of crops, including plantation crops like Tea / Coffee / Cardamom etc. within a range of 100 km, while all other field crops, fruits and vegetable are available in the vicinity.
- The New Field Station site has good communication links, buildings to convert to office and lab space and irrigation
