Working through challenging times: EAS Thailand

Due to the current political situation in Thailand, client visitors were unable to visit trial sites in the Country during February as previously planned.  In any case, active studies in the various regions, including QA inspections, went well with successful outcomes and deadlines being realised.  The political unrest continues to rumble on but at present, EAS Groups Thai business is unaffected and studies are running as usual.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Erhard Brunner

Expanding our geographical coverage: India

EAS is proud to announce that its Field Station lease contract in Coimbatore has been signed this month.  Coimbatore, in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is based in a geographically diverse region.  This location has been selected for the following reasons;

  • Weather is highly conducive for pests and diseases - specifically, there are no extremes of rain/winter/summer, which are very common in most of the other locations. The uniform climatic conditions help in conducting trials throughout the year.
  • The availability of a wide range of crops, including plantation crops like Tea/Coffee/Cardammon etc. within a range of 100 km, while all other field crops, fruits and vegetable are available in the vicinity.
  • The New Field Station site has good communication links, buildings to convert to office and lab space and irrigation

GLP Certification: Eurofins do Brasil

The Eurofins do Brasil test facility successfully passed the regular GLP inspection in February 2014. Three inspectors from INMETRO, the GLP authorities of Brazil, conducted a GLP inspection between 10 and 14 February 2014 and checked a large number of study and facility documents as well as facilities. Individual inspectors also inspected various experimental phases of ongoing field residue and field ecotox trials in the vicinity of the facility but also at remote sites.

The inspectors were satisfied with GLP compliance of the test facility and we would like to congratulate our colleagues in Brazil on their preparation and competent support during the GLP inspection.

For further information on Brazil, and South America, please contact Mauricio Van Santen

Potato blight demo site: EAS Germany

EAS Germany is currently establishing a trial location where potatoes are infested artificially with Phytophthora infestans and irrigated as required over the whole trial period.  The site is located in Northern Germany near Stade and plots for R&D and demo purposes are still available.

Also, the annual potato blight event in the UK will again be taking place this year in August / September depending on conditions.

If you are interested in reserving a plot for the German demo trial, or would like more information, please contact Joerg Euler

Specimen Shipment Services: Europe

GLP Certification: EAS France

We are pleased to announce the renewal of GLP certification for EAS SAS in France, specifically the field stations in Gennes, Meauzac, Rouvres and Uchizy.  Granted on 23rd January 2014 by COFRAC, the GLP accreditation was first gained in France by Agrisearch (France) on 31st October 1997 and GAB (France) on 6th December 2001 prior to being acquired by Eurofins in 2006.  Many of the original team members remain as SD's and senior staff at these sites.

Also, EAS France received this month the new certificate for the French Credit Tax Research (C.I.R.: Credit Impot Recherche) which covers the period from 2014 to 2016.

For information on field services offered in France, please contact Christophe Narboux, or, for analytical information, Camille Sole.

New appointment: EAS Austria

On 1st March 2014, we will welcome a new colleague, Johannes Schwarz to our team in Austria.  He holds a degree in agro-biology and will take over the local study management role as Study Monitor, strengthening the existing resource and expertise.  Additionally, EAS Austria received full GEP accreditation for all categories (including horticulture and forestry) in 2013 and will aim for GLP accreditation this year.

A special tractor for spraying fungicides in high crops like corn has been purchased and glasshouse studies can now be offered - for further information, please contact Nikolaus Mohrenschildt

And finally… a case study from our ecotoxicology department...

New focus in NTA risk assessment

An important point in non-target arthropod risk assessment is the protection of off-crop populations of arthropods. To maintain biodiversity in the off-field environment is of interest because off-field populations should not be affected by crop management and several species are beneficial for both nature and agriculture...
