Eurofins Product Testing - DECT / UPCS Testing
|
DECT denotes a radio technology suited for voice data and networking applications with range requirements up to a few 100 m. The DECT technology was developed by the European ETSI Institute in the 1980s and spread all over the world in recent years. Main reason is the allocation of a special portion of the frequency band exclusively for this telecommunication technology which is available in more than 100 countries worldwide. DECT based products are not in “competition” with other telecommunication technologies sharing the same frequency portion as WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) technologies in the 2.4 MHz ISM (Industrial Scientific Medical) band. This guarantees a very reliable and high quality voice and data communication link.
The test results according to European and American standards are accepted in most of the countries supporting the DECT based technology by allocation of an own frequency band. DECT based systems work typically in a frequency range from 1880 to 1900 MHz in Europe, Australia, partly Asia and Africa and from 1910 to 1930 MHz in North- and South – America. Several countries use only sub-portion of the bands, so that a detailed investigation for these regions is necessary. For a comprehensive certification of DECT based equipments additional tests could be required according to the region of certification or type of equipment. DECT based devices should comply with radio frequency exposure requirements, such as a SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) measurement for handhelds or body worn equipment. Furthermore requirements for connection to the public telephone networks, EMC (ElectroMagnetic Compatibility), electrical safety or environmental regulations (RoHS / WEEE) should be met. Eurofins is a European Union notified and competent body for directives on EMC ElectroMagnetic Compatibility), R&TTE (Radio & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment) and LVD (Low Voltage Directive). Based on the Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) between the European Union, USA and Canada, Eurofins is accredited as TCB (Telecommunication Certification Body) and FCB (Foreign Certification Body) to handle FCC - USA and IC - Canada certification procedures for DECT based equipment, directly. The Eurofins laboratory is accredited for DECT / UPCS and LE-PCS measurements for Europe, USA and Canada. |
