LEED and products in Italy
Why and when it can be meaningful to show LEED compliance of a product, and which LEED credits can support use of sustainable products in LEED projects, is explained on our page www.eurofins.com/leed-products.
Can products be LEED labeled?
Products cannot be LEED certified. Only buildings can. USGBC does not foresee any type of "LEED compliance" attestation of a product. LEED related labels "may not be placed on product packaging under any circumstances", as stated in the USGBC Trademark Policy and Branding Guidelines on page 13 (as in the version valid in 2014).
GBC Italia has some different specifications, compared with other countries.
LEED for adhesives and sealants
GBC Italia has some different specifications - you need to show compliance with EMICODE EC1 specifications for credit QI 4.1 in LEED 2009 Italia NC (New Constructions) and in LEED GBC Historic Building, and for credit QI 3 in LEED Italia GBC Home V2.
LEED for paints and coatings
GBC Italia has some different specifications - you need to show compliance with some VOC content limits as specified in credit QI 4.1 in LEED 2009 Italia NC (New Constructions) and in LEED GBC Historic Building, and in credit QI 3 in LEED Italia GBC Home V2.
LEED for textile and resilient floorings
For LEED 2009 Italia NC (New Constructions) and for LEED GBC Historic Building, credit QI 4.1, you need to show compliance with CRI Green Label or Green Label Plus or FloorScore or CDPH - like in US LEED 2009, and without allowing a European alternative pathway.
For LEED Italia GBC Home V2, credit QI 3, you need to show compliance with either French class A+, OR with German AgBB. Please note that this is the weakest requirement of any LEED program across the world. A flooring compatible with LEED Italia GBC Home V2 credit QI 3, based on the French class A+, can have much higher VOC emissions than accepted for any other LEED program at any place in the world. LEED compliance is only given for LEED Italia GBC Home V2 in that case.
US GBC operates a list of common low VOC rating systems that allow showing product compliance. Some of them are directly compliant, such as the Indoor Air Comfort GOLD program; other ones are compliant only if the test report shows low formaldehyde emissions of max. 10 µg/m³ after 28 days the reference room, in line with the French A+ class. The French A+ class alone is sufficient only for Composite Wood products, not in general. The list of compliant rating systems can be seen on the US GBC website.

Eurofins VOC related services
Eurofins offers documentation of compliance with the specifications on emissions of VOC and aldehydes by independent and ISO 17025 accredited testing, and if relevant also with external surveillance (inspections, re-testing), and certification, e.g. in combination with the Eurofins operated certification programme Indoor Air Comfort - certified products.
Eurofins operates both an accredited and notified test house and an approved ÜZ certification body. VOC emissions testing for any program or regulation can be easily combined with tests for other regulations or labels such as Belgian VOC regulation, French VOC regulations, German VOC regulations, EMICODE, German Blue Angel, Finnish M1 and US tests. Such combinations allow to save money compared with separate testing for each of these purposes. One example is the Eurofins Pan-European test package.
Certification and testing services for Ü mark, CE mark and the Eurofins certification program Indoor Air Comfort - certified products can be ordered in parallel for use on different market segments - there will be significant costs saving when compared to ordering these services separately.
