Background and capabilities in the U.S.A.

Specialty Products Services include bio-efficacy dossier development for biocides, professional and consumer products used in the domestic and public health pest control, home and garden, and turf and ornamental markets; laboratory and field studies to determine the effects of products to honey bees and other non-target organisms.   With core business and technical expertise based in Cedar Grove Research Facility and Prospect Hill Research Facility in North Carolina, we offer customized studies to support product registrations in the US and globe.

With regards to Biotech; we understand the challenges in conducting research on regulated seed traits and the influence our work has on our customer’s freedom to operate. We also understand the need for good science under GLP and non-GLP study requirements. Our focus is on delivering quality samples, data, and reporting to both research and production customers while maintaining compliance with local government and individual company requirements. Internal packaging/shipping training and standards along with timely communication with receiving labs ensure consistent shipping results of your valuable samples.

East Coast Locations

Cedar Grove Research Facility (CGRF) is located in Orange County, North Carolina and features three offices, two laboratories, a monitored freezer room for sample storage, a secure archive, common equipment room, two growth rooms and two greenhouses.

CGRF maintains a staff of three research scientists, two assistant research scientists, and three part-time research technicians. All full-time staff have been trained for Biotech work and certified in Good Laboratory Practices. One of the research scientists is an Entomologist, and two of the staff are North Carolina State Certified Beekeepers. Everyone has a working knowledge of beekeeping, as approximately 30 hives are kept on site. Cedar Grove also maintains cultures of bedbugs, aphids, mites and various stored grain pests.

Field work at CGRF is comprised of several different types of studies. The most common studies are Biotech crop testing, pesticide efficacy and crop tolerance, honeybee ecotoxicity studies and residue studies. GLP studies are conducted at the request of the sponsor.

The common field crops are corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat, oats, tobacco and sunflowers. Our common vegetables include tomato, pepper, potatoes, cucurbits and broccoli.

The CGRF greenhouses are used most frequently to grow crops needed for transplant in the field, or to maintain arthropod cultures. Other studies maintained in a greenhouse setting include germination studies, pollination studies, water management studies, and caged insect studies.

The laboratory houses several growth chambers used to maintain arthropod cultures in isolation. The laboratory is used for efficacy screening, bioassays, disease culture maintenance, algal cultures and germination studies. Laboratory work at Cedar Grove specializes in pesticide efficacy, including translational work with field-to-lab samples, as well as consumer products and urban entomology.

Some common arthropods used in research at Cedar Grove include honeybees, bedbugs, aphids, two-spotted spider mite, roaches, ants, mosquitoes, wasps, hornets, ticks, fleas, flies and spiders.

Prospect Hill Research Facility is located in Caswell County, North Carolina; with two offices, an upstairs apartment, four walk-in growth chambers, a vented research room with preparation area, phytotron equipment, stand-up growth chambers, a track sprayer, a lab, and a separate room for holding the facility is approximately 7000 sq. feet.

Prospect Hill is staffed by all members of the Cedar Grove Facility. Arthropod culture overflow is maintained at Prospect Hill, including aphids and mites.

All track sprayer studies are facilitated at this location, as well as any studies with the more aggressive pest species, such as bedbugs, fleas, or mosquitoes. Studies that last more than 3 months are also maintained in this facility for the holding of treated substrates in a contained environment.

Indoor aerosol spray studies are conducted in this laboratory, utilizing the vented research room and preparation area.

We have twelve field facilities located throughout the U.S.A. offering full coverage of all the key cropping regions.  In addition, our partner laboratory, Eurofins PSL based out of NJ, offers a fully equipped pesticide residue laboratory.  Please see below contact details for the primary U.S. locations.
