Expansion and growth at Niefern site, Germany

Recently, Eurofins made a €6 million euro investment in a new Agroscience facility at our established site in Niefern, Germany. Based on the experience acquired over the last few decades and the expertise at the existing Niefern facility, this will be our group centre of excellence in Ecotoxicology, Aquatoxicology and Environmental Fate laboratory studies, vastly increasing capacities in these areas. It will also be one of our key analytical sites for Residue Analysis and Physical Chemistry allowing considerable expansion of these services which will benefit from the modernized facility.

The project began December 2008 with the majority of building work reaching completion in November 2009. Based over three floors, the new building spans 3000 square metres, incorporating a multitude of laboratories, climatic chambers, preparation areas and office space. Following a partial opening ceremony in September 2009, the new Aquatoxicology laboratory is already fully up and running.

The Niefern proposition is now formidable; services include the following - please click on the links for more information:

> Ecotoxicology – laboratory and field
> Aquatoxicology - laboratory and field
> Environmental Fate studies – C14 radio-labeling
> Physical Chemistry – Active substances & chemicals / Products (Plant Protection & Biocides)
> Residue Analysis

The Ecotoxicology department, including the aquatic department, will double in size and be fully modernized to deliver optimal performance and efficiency. Eurofins Agroscience Services can now claim to have Europe’s largest capacity for Ecotoxicology studies combined with in house on-line analytical determination.

Our radio labeling service capability will also increase - with more than 300 square metres of laboratory space and state-of-the art equipment, the C14 laboratory capacity will double within the next few years. This, together with the improved Ecotoxicology department, an estimated increase of 50% on physical chemistry capabilities and the establishment of a new team for inorganic matters, means that the Niefern site will also be well prepared for REACH.
